Today the high jumpers were thwarted (once again) in our attempt to high jump.
Yep, thwarted. What a great word.
This time it was because of the rain. All day I kept thinking "I don't care if it rains so long as it waits till after we can high jump." And it almost did; we made it to track practice, and we did our stretches and plios (sp?) and just as we were finishing that it started to rain, but just a little sprinkle, you know?
So we all hurry over to the high jump mat and uncover it and wait for Coach, who is stuck in traffic because of the rain. And we keep jumping up to wave hysterically at every white truck that goes by down Dumont, thinking it's him.
After a while the rain picks up enough that we all put our hoods on and decide to cover the mat with the tarp, to keep it from getting too soaked. And then we wait, and tie knots in each other's hoods, and wait, and wave at more trucks, and wait, and sing songs about Santa's elves, and, you guessed it, wait some more.
Finally Coach got there, but at almost the same time, God, with his infinite sense of humor, opened up the clouds and it started pouring. So we found our marks, and made a few funny attempts at jumping, but that really doesn't work too well when you are running through puddles and can't see because of the rain dripping into your eyes. Really. You'll have to try it sometime.
So in the end we gave up and went back to the locker room and realized how soaked we were. Seriously, we were REALLY WET. My hair was drenched all the way through, and that's saying something, cause it's pretty thick.
So pray for CLEAR SKIES on Monday so we can all finally JUMP!!!! *sigh*
The bright side of all this is, though, that Big Bear is quite probably getting a BIG LOAD OF SNOW!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Wow, this is the longest post I've ever managed. Probably because it's either that or start my homework. . .
